In 2002, Tyler Fuqua traveled to Peru looking for adventure and a way to help others. He immediately fell in love with the beautiful country, its amazing people, and the street boys he had come to know and serve. Heartbroken over the children’s plight and the injustices they endured, he vowed to help. Although it took nearly two years, Tyler was finally able to return in 2004 when he organized a group of friends at Samford University to travel to Peru for their college Spring Break.
Since that first Spring Break trip in 2004, approximately 75 Samford students and alumni have visited the orphanage in Peru, and they have raised funds to provide two full-time teachers for the children.Based on these experiences, Tyler, his wife, Allison Pittman Fuqua, and fellow Samford alumni, Brian Cook, Zach Shipps, Kristen McKee and Alan Mykitta decided to start the non-profit organization, Not Forgotten, Inc., in 2007 to help the street children of Peru and other forgotten people around the world. They now recruit volunteers from across the U.S. to take several trips a year to Peru to help with ongoing construction projects, organize activities and Bible lessons, and spend quality time with the children.
