Carnegie Mellon University stands among an elite group of top-tier international universities that have shaped the world through education, research, and outreach. With a student-faculty ratio of 10:1, faculty members are extremely accessible and take a genuine interest in their students' work. Carnegie Mellon’s world-renowned faculty members are practicing professionals who bring extensive knowledge and experience into the classroom. The curriculum is both general and flexible, aiming to produce fast learners rather than specialists. Recognizing that our graduates may work in areas that do not even exist today, we prepare them with skills for the future.

Starting in 1972, Carnegie Mellon became one of the first academic institutions to offer formal courses in entrepreneurship. Introduction to Entrepreneurship
Provides an overview of entrepreneurship to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, and learn how to differentiate an idea from an opportunity. Students develop a business idea and explore its potential for becoming a viable business. Students learn market research, interact with entrepreneurs and business professionals, and formulate effective presentations, both written and oral.

New Venture Creation

Students explore the nuances of financing new ventures, corporate legal issues, and how to market products or services. Teams pull together coherent, persuasive mini-business plans that serve as roadmaps for building viable businesses with substantial potential for success.

Financing Entrepreneurial Ventures
Various sources of financing are covered including bootstrapping, angels, venture capitalists and others. Guest entrepreneurs are invited to class to discuss how they got sufficient funding at the various stages of building their companies.
