Leading the Entrepreneurial Effort: Lake Erie College President has Background Blending Business and Academia

LAKE Erie College President Michael T. Victor is an anomaly in the education world. A former lawyer and CEO, Victor was born with an entrepreneurial spirit.

As the son of a successful entrepreneur, Victor's orientation and leadership in business began at an early age. As his businesses grew, Victor began to share his knowledge as an adjunct professor and was eventually named Dean of Business at a prestigious business school.
“Entrepreneurship involves seeing an opportunity and seizing it. We are proud to promote an environment where students have the freedom to think creatively and put their passions to work!"

Infusing College Entrepreneurship

In 2006, Victor was named president of Lake Erie College and has completely transformed the college with his entrepreneurial thinking. So far, he has established new majors (equine entrepreneurship, sports management and criminal justice to name a few), secured more than $17 million in contributions, started new athletic teams (football, track, tennis and lacrosse) and initiated new construction projects. These efforts have led to a 250 percent increase of applications and the largest amount of new students in college history.

Leading by example, Victor has helped to ignite the spirit of entrepreneurship across the campus. “Entrepreneurship involves seeing an opportunity and seizing it. We are proud to promote an environment where students have the freedom to think creatively and put their passions to work! I encourage all of our students to pursue their dreams," said Victor.
